304 (18/8): 18% chromium, 8% nickel. The global workhorse for food-grade stainless steel and the standard for most insulated bottles and tumblers.
316 (18/10 / "marine grade"): adds 2–3% molybdenum, which significantly improves resistance to chlorides and pitting corrosion. Often called "surgical grade" in marketing.

For the overwhelming majority of insulated water bottles, travel tumblers and vacuum flasks, 304 is the correct, safe and cost-effective choice. It is fully food-safe, rust-resistant under normal use, and compliant with US FDA and EU LFGB regulations. Choosing 304 lets you keep unit cost down without compromising safety.
If you're building a flagship premium line, offering 316 as an upgrade tier is a common, effective strategy.
You'll see both. 18/8 and 18/10 are marketing names for 304-type steels (the nickel figure is rounded). True 316 is usually labelled 18/10 with molybdenum. Always ask your manufacturer for the material certificate rather than trusting the label alone — a real factory provides SGS/TUV material test reports.
